This CD includes improvisations of unique inspiration and clarity, from the most renowned clarinet artist in Greece, Vassilis Soukas. Six compositions that span from the later byzantinian paths of expression, initiate us to the mustagogy of pure improvisations. This particular album published now by Libra was initially released in LP format from the label Praxis by Costas Yiannoulopoulos, no longer in circulation.

Vassilis Soukas was born in the town of Komboti, close to Arta, Epirus. On the 25th of March 1931. A member of the prominent Soukas clan or "Saganides", as they were known in Komboti, Arta. His father Anastasios (born approximately in 1900) played the clarinet. His grandfather Theodoros (born approximately in 1850) played the violin. His great grand father Anastasios(born approximately in 1800) played the clarinet. At the age of twenty-eight he moves to Athens, where he participates in many recordings of folk and popular music. In addition, he gives numerous concerts and plays for radio and television programs. In 1993 he give his final concert at the Athens concert Hall with Ross Daly and Michael's Stavrakakis. He died on the 28th of June 1993 in his house in Marathonas. |
