Nikos Skalkottas was born in Chalkis in 1904. In 1909, his family arrives in Athens where he starts to study the violin at the Academy. First Price in 1920, then gold medal next year, he leaves to continue his studies of violin in Berlin under the direction of Willy Hess. From 1925 to 1927, he studies the composition near Philipp Jarnach and Schönberg by which he will be strongly influenced. He returns in Athens in 1933 and he is devoted exclusively to the composition. He dies there in 1949 at the age of only 45 years but leaving behind him a gigantic work.

Yannis Konstantinidis was born in 1903. He obtained his first substantial education with distinguished musicians such as Dimosthenis Milanakis. Just before the Asian Minor catastrophe, he managed to escape to Berlin where he studied advanced musical theory under the guidance of Kurt Weill. In 1931, he left Germany and settled in Athens using the pseudonym "Kostas Yannidis". He died in 1984.

Dionysios Visvardis was born in 1910 on the island of Zakynthos. While studding piano and theory he excelled as a skillful player of the clarinet. As manager of the Armed forces radio, he created and directed the symphonic orchestra of the station. He offered his educational and cultural services to numerous philharmonic orchestras, choirs, mantolinates all over Greece.

Panayotis (Takis) Kalogeropoulos was born in Athens in1946. He studied advanced theory under the guidance of Kostas Kydoniatis at the Athens Conservatory. In 1973, the composer left Greece for studies in Italy, Austria and Germany. He permanently returned to Greece in 1979.
