In his art, Paris Prekas expresses the concept of the journey in all its senses: the desire to move on, the yearning for the quest. The idea of the journey is to be found in every cycle of his oeuvre - an oeuvre divided into periods which were not decided by the artist in advance.
The harbours of the Aegean, the landscapes taken from Greek nature, the sails and the boats, the massive tankers - in everything there is a direct or allusive reference to a flight from conventionality, to detachment from everyday routine. Throughout the work of Prekas, we sense the concept of personal freedom, of the joy brought by uncommitted opinions and values. |
